FX is maintaining the future of Atlanta. The network has announced an early season four renewal for the critically acclaimed series. Production on seasons three and four will begin in the spring.
Despite the early renewal, there’s currently no time frame for the return of the series. By the time production begins on season three, Atlanta will have been off the air for two years. The series was supposed to return in time for 2019 Emmy eligibility but FX CEO John Landgraf announced in February that it wouldn’t be ready in time. A lot of the issue is the busy schedule of Donald Glover but the rise of Brian Tyree Henry, LaKeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz in the film industry also plays into some of the scheduling issues.
Season one of Atlanta was nominated for six Emmy Awards, winning two: outstanding lead actor in a comedy series and outstanding directing for a comedy series, with both awards going to Glover. Season three and four of the series will consist of eight episodes.
