It’s the end of an era. In the midst of the Disney-Fox merger, it looks like the Fox 2000 banner will be the first casualty of the takeover.
The label was run by Elizabeth Gabler and it was originally believed that Gabler, who made a slew of mid-budget elegant tastemaker films, would continue to lead the executive team who make up her label, but reports have said that isn’t going to be the case.
Gabler’s division is responsible for such films as Fight Club, Hidden Figures, The Fault In Our Stars, The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, Love, Simon and The Hate U Give. These are a mix of risk-taking and award potential films that could work under any banner but Disney will have 11 film labels and at some point, I guess keeping them on would feel redundant.
This is a surprise, given that Disney announced Gabler’s label would continue. Fox 2000 has six executives under her as well as assistants & it’s likely that all of them will be out of jobs. It remains unclear if Gabler will become a producer but as of now the last release for Fox 2000 will be The Woman in the Window, the Joe Wright-directed thriller that stars Amy Adams and Gary Oldman.
Reports are saying this is the most shocking of the layoffs & many took place yesterday with more likely to come.
