The force will continue to be strong with Disney and the Star Wars brand. The company announced release dates for three untitled Star Wars films that will sure to get fans speculating what they’ll actually be.
The Star Wars films in question will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022. Those dates are December 16, 2022; December 20, 2024; and December 18, 2026. Disney announced previously that two separate Star Wars series, outside of the Skywalker saga, were in development from Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
The current Star Wars saga is set to end this December with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. That film will conclude the nine-picture saga that began with the original 1977 film, while what comes next has been a mystery. There’s been at least one Star Wars film every year since 2015’s The Force Awakens, but Disney has indicated it would take a big-screen break after Rise of Skywalker, as Lucasfilm is focusing on series for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. Those projects include Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and an untitled Diego Luna-led Rogue One prequel.
