Dirty John Renewed For Season 2 With New Cast & New Story At Netflix

Dirty John became the latest based on a true story true crime obsession when it premiered on Bravo and while its subject matter could really only work for a limited series run, the show is being brought back on Netflix but don’t expect more of the same.

After previously airing on Bravo, the show is coming to the streaming platform, Netflix. For any fans looking for a continuation of the nail-biting dating horror story acted out by Connie Britton and Eric Bana you might be disappointed. According to Netflix, season two will feature an all-new cast and storyline.

For Those Who Haven’t Seen Dirty John There Are Spoilers Ahead So Proceed With Caution:

The first season of Dirty John retold the true events discussed in the popular podcast of the same name.  It details the manipulative and abusive relationship between interior designer Debra Newell (Connie Britton) and a deceitful doctor named John Meehan (Eric Bana). The season ends much like the real story concluded, with John being killed in an act of self-defense by Debra’s daughter, Terra.

With an ending like that, there isn’t much story left to tell so it makes sense that Netflix is going a different direction for season 2 but the question is: what direction will they take? Well, like any good mystery, details are being a kept a bit under wraps. All Netflix will say is that the second season will be a “different and self-contained story” and more details will be released at a later date.

In addition to a second installment, Oxygen Media has ordered a companion docuseries that will delve into the real-life “Dirty John” and will feature one-on-one interviews with the people that he deceived.

Dirty John season one is available to stream now on Netflix
