Deception Canceled At ABC

Deception couldn’t pull off the magic trick of being renewed. ABC has canceled the freshman drama after only one season.

Deception premiered March 11 and easily won its Sunday 10 PM slot thanks to a lead-in from the debut of American Idol on ABC. Deception‘s bow drew a 1.3 in 18-49 and 6.1 million total viewers — the network’s best-scripted premiere numbers in the hour since Quantico in September 2015. Despite the respectable start, the series has seen its ratings dwindle week after week with its low being a 0.6 in the demo and 3.38 million viewers. In recent airings, it has improved to a 07-0.8 demo score but that wasn’t enough to save the show.

Jack Cutmore-Scott stars as superstar magician Cameron Black in the series, from Warner Bros TV and Berlanti TV. When his career is ruined by scandal, he has only one place to turn to practice his art of deception, influence, and illusion: the FBI. Using every trick in the book and inventing new ones, Cameron helps the government catch the world’s most elusive criminals while staging the biggest illusions of his career. The series also starred Ilfenesh Hadera, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, Vinnie Jones and Lenora Crichlow
