Cobie Smulders is heading back to network TV. ABC has handed out a series order to the Untitled P.I. drama starring the actress which is based on the Stumptown graphic novels.
The Cobie Smulders pilot was written by Jason Richman and directed by James Griffiths. Based on the Stumptown graphic novel series, it follows Dex Parios (Smulders) as a strong, assertive, and sharp-witted army veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt, and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon. Her military intelligence skills make her a great P.I., but her unapologetic style puts her in the firing line of hardcore criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.
It’s being reported that the series, which originally carried the title of the graphic novels, is going through a name change which is why it’s listed as “Untitled”. The show was a strong internal favorite at the network and they’re so confident in Jason Richman that they signed him to a new overall deal to develop more shows.
This marks How I Met Your Mother alumna Smulders’ return to network television full-time. (She reprised her Avengers character Maria Hill in a recurring arc on ABC’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) She also starred on the Netflix series Friends From College for two seasons before it was canceled by the streamer.
