Twin Peaks may have its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival according to Deadline.
While a premiere date for its Showtime debut has not yet been announced, speculation and ongoing discussions among showrunners hint that the revival’s premiere could happen at Sundance in some capacity, possibly through a surprise screening.
Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, the original ABC drama has become a cult hit since its premiere in 1990. The new series on Showtime is set to pick up about 25 years after the events of its second and final season. Lynch and Frost returned to write the new series.
Twin Peaks follows the lives of eccentric residents of a Pacific Northwest town rocked by the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) comes in to investigate what exactly happened. Twin Peaks parodies many American soap operas and has a campy melodramatic tone, which made it a hit among its fans.
Fans should be on the look out for news when the show has its own Television Critics Association panel on January 9th. There is no word if show footage will be shown or previewed there.
