Avengers: Infinity War Tracking For $200 Million+ Opening Weekend

Avengers: Infinity War has finally hit box office tracking and initial estimates see it coming in with a $200 million+ opening weekend.

The big caveat here is that when films chart this high on tracking, it becomes hard to predict their opening, and you also have to remind yourself of the cap that April has: its record $100 million-plus weekends of Furious 7 ($147 million) and Fate of the Furious ($98.7 million) occurred over Easter holiday weekends, while The Jungle Book exploded to a $103.2 million during the middle of the month. Only 5% K-12 and 4% colleges are off during the April 27-29 opening weekend for Infinity War, but school never stopped the kids from fueling a record weekend at the box office. Furthermore there were slightly more schools on break on Infinity War‘s original weekend of May 4 (2% K-12 and 16% colleges per ComScore).

Tracking, especially early tracking, is always subject to change. Marvel’s own Black Panther began tracking in the $80 million range before it surged to $170 million in the days before its opening. As we know now, that film hit the $200 million milestone over its opening weekend and broke several records as a result. As awareness expands, it will not be a surprise if Infinity War begins to see its tracking increase.

Back on March 16, Fandango made the announcement that advance ticket sales for Infinity War broke the 24-hour sales record of all superhero films within six hours of their release. There are a lot of factors at play for Infinity War to break a lot of records but what is known is that it will clear $200 million and only by how much is the question at hand.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27.
