Avengers: Infinity War is continuing to break records. The superhero mash-up has crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office faster than any film in history.
The film achieved the milestone today, its 11th day in release. This tops the 12 days it took for fellow Disney title Star Wars: The Force Awakens to join the billion-dollar club. For all those keeping score out there, the clock starts on the day a film opens overseas, which, in the case of Infinity War, was April 25.
Infinity War wrapped up Friday night with $974.5 million worldwide and $369.7 million of that came from the domestic box office. It’s estimated that the film could have a second weekend of at least $115-120 million which would make it rank second for the best second weekend at the box office, behind The Force Awakens.
The film’s international take of $604.8 million is even more impressive because this does not include what should be a lucrative run in China. The film doesn’t launch there until May 11 so there is even more money in store for the film as it may break some records there as well.
Infinity War is now the 34th film to gross $1 billion at the global box office and joins five other Marvel titles in that club as well: The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Panther, Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War).
