“Part of the journey is the end.” That’s the theme that permeates throughout the first trailer for Avengers 4, which now has an official title: Avengers: Endgame.
The new trailer arrives 5 months before the release of the film which is now opening a week early on April 26, 2019. The film has been shrouded in mystery following the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War. The title Endgame is a reference to Doctor’s Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) line to Tony Stark, “we’re in the endgame now” in Infinity War. It could also be a callback to 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron: “That up there? That’s the endgame.”
Part of the directing team, Joe Russo, revealed that although the film is still in the editing process the current runtime is three hours. If that should hold, it would make it the longest Marvel Studios movie yet (Infinity War currently holds the record at two hours, forty minutes).
Avengers: Infinity War is the highest grossing film of the MCU with a worldwide tally of more than $2 billion. With the epic scope that this trailer seems to suggest, look for Avengers: Endgame to try to top that as this may be the swan song for many members of the MCU.
