Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver, The Fault in our Stars) is your next President.
Well, not really but he will play one on the big screen. Elgort is set to play a young John F. Kennedy in the upcoming World War II drama, Mayday 109, based on the 1943 sinking of Kennedy’s PT boat. Lieutenant Kennedy was instrumental in saving the lives of those on the boat. As commander of the torpedo boat PT 109, Kennedy led 11 surviving crewmen to a deserted island after an attack by a Japanese destroyer.
No director is yet attached to the sort of biopic but the script was written by Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore.
It’s not the first film to explore Kennedy’s heroics in the South Pacific. PT-109, a film dramatizing this story, starring Clift Robertson as Kennedy, opened in 1963. It was the first commercial film about a president to be released while he was still in office.
