Anne Hathaway Lands Role Of The Grand Witch In Robert Zemeckis’ The Witches

Anne Hathaway has joined Robert Zemeckis’ The Witches, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1973 novel of the same name.

Hathaway has been hovering around the project since November and it will actually be a part of a two-picture deal for the actress with Warner Bros. Not only would she do The Witches, but she would also be a part of the studio’s Sesame Street movie as well. That project is being helmed by Jonathan Krisel and is a musical co-production with MGM.

The Witches follows a seven-year-old boy who stumbles upon a witch convention and must stop them. The studio previously made a loose-adaptation of the book back in 1990 with Nicolas Roeg directing and Anjelica Huston starring. Zemeckis’ version, which he is writing, will reportedly be more faithful to the source material. It’s also being reported that Viola Davis is also circling the project as well.

Anne Hathaway will be seen next in next weeks much delayed, Serenity, co-starring Matthew McConaughey.
