A day after Awkwafina joined the cast, another new cast member is headed to play the game. It has been announced that Danny DeVito has joined the sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Much like Awkwafina’s role, DeVito’s character is being kept under wraps but it is a bit a fun casting that should work well alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. The currently untitled sequel is set for release at the end of this year.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was based on the picture book by Chris Van Allsburg and builds on the 1995 movie adaptation, both of which told the story of a magical board game in which wild jungle animals came into the real world. The latest adaptation updated the premise by making a video game the vessel that transported four teens into the game and had them portrayed as avatars by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan.
Welcome to the Jungle was a huge success at the box office when it was released in 2017. The film grossed $962 million worldwide and was a critical success for Sony.
