American Idol Down From Last Year’s Premiere At ABC

American Idol had its second season premiere on ABC on Sunday and it was down considerably from its season start on the network last season.

On ABC, the season premiere of American Idol easily led the Sunday primetime ratings in the adults 18-49 demo, scoring a 1.7 average rating with 8.63 million viewers. It beat the rest of the night’s broadcasts by at least six-tenths, but was down from its season premiere’s 2.3 rating and 10.48 million viewers in 2018. That being said, Idol was in line with its previous season’s Sunday night average last year.

On NBC, World of Dance made its 2-hour time-period premiere at 8 PM, and posted a 1.0 with 4.17 million viewers, down from the 1.4 and 6.26 million viewers it had scored with its post-Voice premiere last Tuesday night. The dance competition series led into the season 2 premiere of Good Girls at 10 PM, which grabbed a 0.7 with 2.77 million viewers, down from its first season’s 1.0 average and marking a new all-time low in the demo for the series.

On FOX, The Simpsons stayed steady with another 0.9 demo rating and 2.32 million viewers, but the same could not be said for Bob’s Burgers (0.8, 2.04 million viewers) and Family Guy (0.8, 2.10 million viewers), both of which fell one-tenth.

On The CW, Supergirl returned with a 0.4 demo score and 1.18 million viewers), up 0.1 from its last episode, as was Charmed (0.3, 750,000  viewers).

On CBS, God Friended Me (0.7, 6.83 million viewers) and NCIS: Los Angeles (0.9, 6.92 million viewers) each rebounded one to two-tenths from their previous episodes. Madam Secretary similarly ticked back up from a 0.4 to a 0.6 demo rating and 5.17 million viewers.
