Alfre Woodard Joins Live Action Lion King

The pride is complete!

Alfre Woodard has joined the cast of the live action remake of Disney’s The Lion King. The veteran actress will be playing Sarabi.

Woodard joins Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones, who will be reprising his role as Mufasa. Madge Sinclair voiced Sarabi in the original 1994 Disney animated film.

Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner and John Oliver will also voice parts in the feature, which recently added Chiwetel Ejiofor to its roster to potentially play the villain, Scar.

Jeff Nathanson wrote the script for Disney,  with Jon Favreau and Jeffrey Silver producing. Jon Favreau has already dabbled in directing another live action Disney effort when he took on The Jungle Book. He will be in the directing chair for this adaptation as well. The Lion King is currently shooting in Los Angeles.
