First Madea scared away Tom Cruise from the top spot last week and now she has put some fear into Tom Hanks as Boo! A Madea Halloween overtakes Inferno to stay at number one for the second weekend in a row.
The film grossed an estimated $16.67 million this weekend which is a better than normal 41% drop for a Tyler Perry film. Audience enthusiasm and the Halloween weekend helped keep this one from collapsing completely and now the film sits with a running total of $52 million.
Opening in a disappointing second is Inferno with $15 million. The opening weekend was off from the weekend of the sequel, Angels & Demons, which opened to $46.2 million in 2009 and was a far cry from the $77 million opening of The Da Vinci Code ten years ago. The $75 million budget won’t be matched here but it has grossed $132.7 million overseas so things won’t be too bad for the film in the end but the fading interest in the States is very apparent.
