Yesterday Sings Its Way To $1.25 Million In Thursday Night Previews

Yesterday sang to a sweet tune in Thursday night previews and shows signs that the film may catch on a bit stronger than originally indicated.

The Beatles-inspired musical romance grossed $1.25 million in Thursday night previews last night from 7 PM shows at 2,200 theaters. The film expands to 2,603 locations today.

I called an opening of $11 million for Yesterday but this preview number suggests that it could score up to $14 million for the weekend. Fandango is also reporting that tickets sales for the film have been especially solid on their end.

Annabelle Comes Home, which opened Wednesday, added another $3.6 million to its box office gross on Thursday, bringing its domestic total to $10.8 million in two days. At the moment, it’s pacing 22% behind Blumhouse/Universal’s The First Purge which launched a year ago around this time. That film launched to $31.5 million over five days and unless Annabelle Comes Home sees a significant surge Friday and Saturday, it may come in below that number.
