Will & Grace Returns Low On Thursday But Improves Over Sunnyside At NBC

The final season of the Will & Grace revival had to return a bit early due to the poor performance of Sunnyside on NBC and even though it improved on that show’s performance, it was still low compared to last season’s start.

On NBC, Will & Grace kicked off at 9:30 PM with a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers. In the key demo, it topped only the 8:30 PM NBC comedy Perfect Harmony (0.4, 2.07 million viewers) to not rank dead last. Just over a year ago, the tenth season of Will & Grace kicked off with a 1.0 rating in the key demo on its premiere night — topping all other NBC comedies. The good news is that it improved on Sunnyside in that timeslot which had scored as low as a 0.1 in the demo so there is some good news for the network. The veteran comedy was topped by Superstore (0.8 rating, 2.93 million viewers) and The Good Place (0.6 rating, 1.94 million viewers) for the night as well. Law & Order: SVU ended their night with a 0.6 demo rating and 3.63 million viewers, even with last week.

on ABC, a steady Grey’s Anatomy once again lead scripted programming with a 1.3 demo rating and 6.05 million viewers. A Million Little Things rebounded in a big way week to week with a 0.9 demo score and 4.39 million viewers, up two-tenths week-to-week, How to Get Away With Murder ended the night and was also up week-to-week with a 0.5 demo rating and 2.42 million viewers.

On CBS, Young Sheldon saw improvement week-to-week, scoring a 1.1 demo rating and 8.5 million viewers. The Unicorn followed it with a 0.8 demo rating and 5.88 million viewers, also up a tenth from its last episode, while Mom (0.8, 6.35 million viewers) and Carol’s Second Act (0.7, 5.11 million viewers) stayed even. The recently renewed Evil capped off the night for the network by falling back down from its previous 0.7 to a 0.5 demo score and 3.59 million viewers.

On The CW, Supernatural held steady with its second straight 0.3 and 1.25 million viewers. Legacies, however, slipped from its 0.3 final rating last Thursday to a 0.2 demo score and 888,000 viewers this time around.

Recapping Thursday ratings this week, NBC gets a win with the return of Will & Grace as it improves the timeslot but the slip year-to-year is pretty major considering what it premiered with last year. Overall, it was a great night for the networks with not too many slips and either steady or improved demo scores week-to-week.
