Turner Obtains ‘Star Wars’ Licensing Rights

Ted Turner has done it again.

Turner Entertainment Company, Inc. has announced that they have reached licensing agreements with Walt Disney and 20th Century Fox, granting them exclusive rights to air the Star Wars franchise. What this means is that TNT and TBS will be the only channels permitted to show any of the films in the franchise, as well as each film that is currently slated for release.

In addition to this, Turner will also be the exclusive host to the world broadcast premiere of each Star Wars film after its home release, meaning after its release on Blu-Ray/DVD, the films will be first broadcasted on Turner networks before anywhere else, including Episodes VIII & IX, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and the Han Solo spin-off film.

The first six films in the franchise will begin airing on September 20th on TNT. The films will debut on six consecutive nights, with the final two days airing marathons of the entire series.
