The race for best documentary feature at the Academy Awards began last night at the 1st Critic’s Choice Documentary Awards. The rest of the critics have agreed and confirmed their praise of O.J.: Made in America during the inaugural ceremony held last night at BRIC, in Brooklyn, New York.
Earlier this year, I stated that OJ: Made in America was not only the best film I’ve viewed up to that point in 2016 but one of the finest documentaries ever made. You can check out my review here. The film was the top winner with four awards in total, including Best Documentary, Best Direction, Best Limited Doc Series and Best Sports Documentary.
On the TV/streaming side, Ava DuVernay’s 13th took home the most awards with Best Documentary, Best Direction, and Best Political Documentary.
Now that the two front runners have been set, who’s your choice for the Best Documentary feature at next year’s Academy Awards? Leave your thoughts below.
