Tom Holland’s Friday is looking pretty damn sweet. After it was announced that Sony and Marvel Studios reached a new deal to keep Spider-Man in the MCU, it was also announced that Uncharted, a film he’s also starring in with Sony, has found a new director.
Sony is in negotiations with Travis Knight to take the helm on Uncharted, a film adaptation of the PlayStation game. Tom Holland is still attached to star in the film and has actually been in the mix in the discussions for Knight to join the project after previous director Dan Trachtenberg exited. If all goes to plan, the film was begin production early next year.
Travis Knight is actually a pretty big get since he’s a critically acclaimed director who earned raves for his stop-motion animation films like Coraline, The Boxtrolls & ParaNorman. His film, Kubo and The Two Strings, was also a huge critical success and it earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Film. He also made the Transformers franchise bearable and quite good with the Bumblebee prequel which also dazzled critics. It’s clear that Knight is steadily becoming one to watch and he may turn an adaptation of a PlayStation game into something much more.
Uncharted features a story that captures the protagonist as a young man & as he grows into the treasure hunter Nathan Drake. The video game has sold over 41 million copies to date.
