Ben Affleck To Lead George Clooney’s The Tender Bar Adaptation At Amazon

George Clooney and Ben Affleck are teaming up again after previously winning an Oscar together for producing Argo. Clooney will be directing Affleck in his next film which is Amazon Studios’ adaptation of The Tender Bar.

Apparently, Clooney and Affleck have been trying to work together again for years now and when the former set this up as his next directorial effort, Affleck was high on his list to star. The Tender Bar is based on the J.R. Moehringer memoir about growing up in Long Island and seeking out father figures among the patrons at his uncle’s bar. The film was originally set up at Sony with Ted Melfi directing but now Clooney is at the helm with William Monahan penning the script.

Despite 2020 being insanely absurd, Ben Affleck is having one of the best years of his career. It started with his sports drama The Way Back, which earned him some of the best reviews of his career on the acting front. Warner Bros is so impressed that the studio is planning to do an awards campaign for his critically acclaimed performance this Oscar season. Affleck recently wrapped production on the New Regency thriller Deep Water and the Ridley Scott period piece The Last Duel and currently is starring in Robert Rodriguez’s Hypnotic. Affleck also found his next directing job, signing on to helm The Big Goodbye, which tells the behind-the-scenes story of the making of Chinatown.

Clooney took some time off the last few years but he has the Netflix film The Midnight Sky set for release this month. The film has been screened early by the press this week and the film is generating Oscar buzz for its technical achievements with some thinking Clooney could get acknowledged for his direction on the project.
