Disney filmmakers and Wreck-It Ralph star John C. Reilly announced a sequel to the 2012 animated film yesterday through Facebook Live. It’s set to release on March 9, 2018. Ralph will be wreaking havoc on the Web only as he can do. Many of the beloved characters from the first film will be back, along with Reilly and Sarah Silverman returning as Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz.
“Zootopia” director Rich Moore and producer Clark Spencer are re-teaming for the follow-up. Phil Johnson, the writer for the 2012 film, will join Moore as director and writer on the project. Reilly stated his excitement at the announcement.
“Ralph is a character very near and dear to my heart. I’m really looking forward to playing the big lug again. Making the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ was one of the most special experiences I’ve ever had and I’m really looking forward to bringing him back to life. So many kids I’ve met all over the world are excited to see him again, too. They tell me all the time!”
The first film grossed $471.2 million worldwide and garnered Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature.
