Fresh off the heels of NBC renewing their longtime running daytime soap Days of Our Lives, CBS has followed suit with a big renewal for the daytime vet, The Young & the Restless. The network has renewed the soap opera for four more seasons.
The renewal will take the soap through the 2023-24 broadcast season. The Young & the Restless has been a huge staple of CBS’ daytime schedule for 47 years and leads all daytime soaps in total viewers (4.1 million), women 25-54 (1.0) and women 18-49 (0.6) when factoring in seven days of delayed viewing. CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl said this about the big renewal:
“Having the No. 1 show for any length of time in any daypart is a tremendous accomplishment, but The Young & the Restless has been daytime’s top drama for over three decades. The last time any other show was on top, Ronald Reagan was president, and the Berlin Wall was still standing. It’s a remarkable achievement and a testament to the extraordinary cast, gifted writers, talented producers and supremely passionate fans, as well as our tremendous partnership with Sony Pictures Television.”
The Young & the Restless is one of four soaps that still remains on daytime television. They also include The Bold & the Beautiful on CBS, Days of Our Lives on NBC and General Hospital on ABC.
