E! is bringing back a pop culture mainstay. The Soup, which last aired three years ago with host Joel McHale, is returning to the network with a brand new host.
E! announced the news on Sunday and with that also came the news that the pop culture talk show would be headlined by a new face. Comedian and actress Jade Catta-Preta will host the series when it returns in early 2020. Rod Aissa, executive VP of production and development, had this to say about the revival:
“We’re excited to bring this beloved franchise back to the network, with a new take on an old favorite. Jade’s quick wit and keen observations will provide a much needed voice in today’s pop culutre landscape delievered in a way that only The Soup can.”
In E!’ s description of the revival. the network noted the series will cover the entertainment world with an “irreverent sense of humor and sharp point of view,” with the new version of The Soup still covering reality TV moments, viral videos and everything in between.
McHale’s version of The Soup went off the air in December 2017 after he had taken over the franchise in 2004. Catta-Preta, whose credits include MTV’s Girl Code and Comedy Central’s @midnight, becomes the latest name to headline the series, joining a club that has included Greg Kinnear, John Henson, Hal Sparks, and Aisha Tyler. The series has aired more than 3,300 episodes to date.
