The New Mutants Reportedly Cuts All Ties To X-Men Movies From The Film While Recent Test Screening Gets Positive Responses

There is actually a mix of interesting & good news for the long-delayed The New Mutants. There is a rumor going around that the film has cut all references to the X-Men movies while a recent test screening yielded positive results.

The report comes from “FandomWire” which says Disney and Marvel have made sure to cut all the ties the movie had to Fox’s previous X-Men films, and “the idea of ‘being a mutant’ won’t be exactly mainstream,” meaning the characters won’t know that they are mutants, and they won’t know anything about the X-Men. The report also says the story is “set within a secret facility that experiments on mutants and the main character (Blu Hunt’s Danielle Moonstar) doesn’t know she is a mutant or the meaning of the word (mutant). Moonstar is brought to the facility after an attack by Demon Bear.”

The big rumor for this change is that it’s being done in case Kevin Feige decides later he wants to bring The New Mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Again this is just a rumor & there isn’t official confirmation of these changes but it wouldn’t be a surprise considering the dismal reception for Dark Phoenix.

Good news for the film is that even though reportedly Disney isn’t feeling the film they may change their tune after recent test screenings which have been well-received. “Geeks WorldWide’s” Thomas Polito and Discussing Film Editor-in-Chief Jacob Fisher both shared rumblings from the screenings, which were reportedly positive overall. Fisher noted that the new cut of the film appears to be more in line with director Josh Boone’s original vision for the movie as more of a horror-tinged approach to the superhero genre. It’s also being reported that the reshoots originally needed may not happen & that this current cut could be a winner, considering the production hell the film has been through.

The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Blu Hunt as Dani Moonstar and Henry Zaga as Sunspot. The film is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2020…hopefully.
