The reign of Catherine The Great will continue at Hulu. It has been announced that the streamer has renewed The Great for a second season. The series stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult.
The comedy-drama will be back for a 10-episode second season run after making its debut on May 15. Hulu says that The Great was “one of the top-performing original comedies” on the service, without giving ratings information but that is typical of all the streaming services that don’t usually reveal their hard numbers. The satirical show tells the story of the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history with only a few occasional facts.
The series hails from The Favourite’s Tony McNamara, who created, wrote and exec produced the show. The series also stars Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow. The Great likely benefitted from some quarantine viewing and it’s something almost each of the streaming services can claim about many of their original shows that took off during this period.
