One of the original stars of Suits will be returning for its final season. Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross before departing the series after season 7, will return for episode five of the shows’ final run of 10 episodes.
Adams is also expected to return for the series finale and he had this to say about returning to the show:
“I couldn’t be happier to be part of the final chapter of Suits. I’ve missed my TV family, and am looking forward to seeing what kind of trouble Mike Ross can stir up at the firm one last time. But if the wardrobe department thinks they’re getting back the suits I stole when I left, they’re going to be very disappointed.”
Adams’ return in episode five revolves around a case that puts him toe to toe with Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl). Series creator Aaron Korsh elaborated on the reasons for his return:
“There was never a question in my mind that I wanted him back for this season. He is the foundation of the show; it was built on him, others also but the very foundation we built on Patrick and Mike, and we all wanted to have him back. It was about how to integrate him organically and in a satisfying way. Then I had to make sure that he had the time to do it and could do it, he is a new father also. After we came up with what it was going to be, I called him. I went to his house, he showed me his olive trees, which were awesome. We went out to dinner, and we talked about it. I said what we had in mind, he was very excited. And then we did it. He’s going to end up getting embroiled in a case against Harvey and Samantha. He doesn’t exactly know that Samantha is going to be involved when he comes back, but he does know Harvey is going to be. (A series of events get her involved in it also.)”
Original cast members Adams and Meghan Markle left Suits at the end of Season 7 when their characters Mike and Rachel got married and moved away. As we know, Markle went off and married a Prince in real life and is now a part of the Royal Family so she will not be returning but she will be referenced for the fans:
“Since they both left, If you take a look throughout season 8 and 9, people refer to both Mike and Rachel, even before he comes back. When he comes back, I do believe there is a little update on Rachel. (In reference to Markle) You never know. There is always a chance she is going to pick up the phone and call me and say can I come back, and if she did she would be welcome back her with arms wide open. But no, l don’t see that happening.”
Since leaving Suits, Adams has recurred on the third season of Amazon’s Sneaky Pete.
