Freddie Highmore will continue to improve his bedside manner on ABC. The network has announced that they have renewed The Good Doctor for a third season.
The Good Doctor was a breakout hit for ABC during season one and also became a huge delayed viewing performer for the network. While the live ratings for season 2 aren’t quite on par with season one, they are still strong, especially considering that the Monday at 10 PM slot has been a struggle in the past for the network.
This season The Good Doctor is averaging 11.2 million viewers and 2.1 in adults 18-49, ranking as ABC’s most-watched series and second highest rated in the demo behind Grey’s Anatomy (tied with Modern Family, The Conners, and The Bachelor). Despite facing new NBC drama Manifest, The Good Doctor has held its own and gradually reclaimed the top spot in the Monday 10 PM hour as Manifest has slipped since its premiere last fall.
The series also stars Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Melendez, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Tamlyn Tomita as Allegra Aoki, Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim, Fiona Gubelman as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park and Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo and comes courtesy of Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios.
