The CW’s Fall Schedule Features New Addition Of Sunday Night Programming

Despite not being a Big Four Network, The CW always has the most interesting Upfronts Presentation. There can be something so basic about the approach of the other networks while The CW at least offers a few surprises. The network has unveiled their new Fall schedule and the biggest change is the launch of original programming on Sunday nights.

The night will be home to female-fronted shows with Supergirl moving to Sunday nights from its Monday night home and the launch of the Charmed remake. Charmed is one of the three new series to get a launch this fall on the network while the other two new shows, In the Dark & Roswell, New Mexico, will premiere midseason.

The launch of Sunday night programming lessens the network’s usually deep bench of series being held for midseason. Aside from the aforementioned new shows, only The 100, iZombie and Jane The Virgin are being held. It has already been confirmed that the latter two shows and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will be airing their final seasons on the network.

Both Monday and Tuesday remain dominated by DC Comics fare. Legends of Tomorrow starts Mondays at 8 PM while Arrow will follow at 9 PM. Tuesday has The Flash staying in place at 8 PM while the second season of Black Lightning will launch in the fall at 9 PM.

Wednesday night is dominated by Greg Berlanti with Riverdale staying put at 8 PM while his new series, All American, will launch at 9 PM.

Supernatural will remain the signature series on Thursday nights with an 8 PM start while The Vampire Diaries and The Originals spinoff, Legacies, will follow at 9 PM.

Dynasty found a new home on Friday nights when it shifted there midseason and it will continue to remain there this fall at 8 PM. The final season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend caps off the night at 9 PM.

Other news at the Upfronts for The CW was why it decided to pass on the Supernatural spinoff, Wayward Sisters. It basically came down to the show not being where it needed to be creatively. CW chief, Mark Pedowitz had this to say about the show:

“We had really great material this year. We’re really exited about the five series we did pick up. We are big fans of the characters and the women who played the characters in the series, but we did not feel creatively the show is where we wanted it to be. We felt we had a better shot with Legacies. CW execs are “big fans” of the Wayward actresses and hope they continue on…guest starring on Supernatural.
