The CW Is Setting Up A Superman & Batwoman Crossover For 2021

The CW will remain in the superhero crossover business. CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz revealed that Superman and Batwoman will come together in a planned two-hour event set for 2021.

Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, was given a straight to series order some time ago and was going to film a traditional pilot before the COVID-19 shutdowns. The plan now is to go straight into series production as a full-fledged series. Superman & Lois revolves around the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalists, as they deal with all the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

Batwoman, which premiered last fall, will head into its second season in January of 2021, per the newly released schedule from The CW. Starring Ruby Rose in the title role, the show is three years after the mysterious disappearance of Batman, and Gotham is a city in despair. Without the Caped Crusader, the Gotham City Police Department was overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs. Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) will have to become what her father loathes, a dark knight vigilante, soaring through the streets of Gotham as Batwoman. Mark Pedowitz had this to stay about the planned crossover:

“We’re still working on it. It will be a smaller event than usual, we’re only planning a two-hour event. We are talking about doing Superman and Batwoman together. There’s a lot of characters coming from our other shows.”

This is indeed a smaller-scale crossover compared to crossovers of the past and this is likely due to production delays in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The CW has aired six annual Arrowverse crossovers to date.
