The Batman, The Many Saints Of Newark & Other Warner Bros. Releases Set New Dates Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Warner Bros. has announced a few release date changes that were made due to COVID-19 concerns & it includes a delay of 2021’s The Batman.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman, whose production has been stalled in London since the industry went dark due to the coronavirus pandemic, is no longer opening on June 25, 2021 & is now shifting to October 1, 2021. While it’s off of a tentpole summer release, it is moving to a time frame that was very good for Joker last year so this film may find even bigger success in that slot. Reeves has said that once it’s safe to get back to work, the plan is to finish The Batman in London instead of relocating. According to reports, about a quarter of the film is shot. It’s unclear what competition The Batman faces on its new release date since there are two untitled movies from Paramount & 20th Century Studios on the date.

DC & Warner Bros. is also going a month earlier with The Flash on June 3, 2022 instead of July 1, 2022. Shazam! 2, originally opening on April 1, 2022
is now opening on November 4, 2022.

The Sopranos film prequel, The Many Saints Of Newark, will move from September 25 of this year to March 12, 2021. Also moving off of this year to next is Will Smith’s King Richard. The film was shooting in Los Angeles before the shutdown & moves from November 19 of this year to November 25 of 2021.

Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis Presley movie, which originally had the October 1, 2021 date that The Batman just snagged, will now move to November 4, 2021 & will compete directly with Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.
