The Batman recently stepped back in front of the cameras in the UK after production was shuttered in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Well, leave it to the coronavirus to cause more problems because The Batman has hit pause on filming once again due to a crewmember testing positive for COVID-19.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson had this to say about the pause:
“A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.”
No word as of yet how long the pause will be but I’m guessing all involved with the production will be tested again to make sure that no one else has contracted the virus. The Batman is coming off of a high after a well-received trailer that debuted at DC FanDome. It is believed that filming resumed about three days ago before this latest halt but no further information was provided by the studio in protecting their workers’ privacy.
This start and stop method of filmmaking during the global pandemic is sadly the new normal. Universal recently denied that a positive COVID-19 case during the UK shoot of Jurassic World: Dominion had stalled shooting, and the production continues to run strong on day 60. Four crewmembers did test positive in Malta where the movie is shooting through mid-September but they went into self-isolation and production scaled back their second unit shoot but did not completely shut down.
The Batman is still scheduled to hit screens on October 1, 2021.
