Tenet Pushes Two Weeks To July 31

Well, it looks like Tenet is on the move guys but it’s not moving by much. Warner Bros. has announced the film is shifting from July 17 to July 31.

Opening in its place on July 17 will be Christopher Nolan’s Inception which is being re-released for its 10th anniversary. Minutes after the Tenet news was announced, Solstice Studios said it is pushing the road-rage thriller Unhinged, starring Russell Crowe, from July 1 to July 10. Everyone has been looking at Tenet to see if the $200 million film would vacate its release date due to the theater closures in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cinemark & AMC have announced plans to be open in time while we’re still waiting on word from Regal Cinemas & Arclight. Currently, 988 theaters have reopened nationwide as of this weekend.

Christopher Nolan has been the driving force behind Tenet being released theatrically (PVOD was never an option for him) and making sure the film didn’t move off its date or too far off the date. I have to respect his tenacity and Warner Bros. for wanting to still get the film out there during a very uncertain time at the multiplex. Due to Tenet shifting to July 31, that means Disney’s Mulan will be the first big release of the summer unless Disney decides to make moves as well.
