As California continues to spike in its COVID-19 positive cases, it was only a matter of time before Warner Bros. made the logical choice towards its summer tentpole, Tenet. Warner Bros. has delayed Tenet‘s release date again.
The announcement comes after months of release date pushbacks and discussion over whether there will ever be a “right” time for Christopher Nolan‘s movie to help re-open movie theaters. Additionally, this announcement comes with a new, official statement from Warner Bros. on their plans to market and distribute Tenet globally.
Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich shared, “We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.”
He further stated that “Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates.”
The announcement essentially supports that we may be able to expect further 2020 releases to either get postponed or go online or on-demand.
