Taika Waititi In Talks To Join James Gunn’s Suicide Squad Sequel

How many roles can possibly be left in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad? Apparently just enough for Taika Waititi to be in talks to join the ensemble for DC sequel.

The Thor: Ragnarok, and Thor: Love and Thunder filmmaker is in talks for a role in the film but there is no word on what the role is or how big or how small it could be. There are reports that a table read is scheduled for September 11 with production beginning on September 26. Perhaps we’ll learn more as these dates approach.

If Waititi is on board, he would join an ensemble that includes Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) as well as new castmembers Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Flula Borg, Steve Agee (King Shark) and Nathan Fillion.

Waititi is on fire at the moment. He revitalized the Thor franchise with Thor: Ragnarok, which went on to gross $854 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of the franchise. He’s back on board to direct Thor: Love and Thunder. He also directed an episode of Disney+ upcoming Star Wars streaming series The Mandalorian, dropping on November 12 and is the executive producer on FX’s vampire comedy series What We Do In Shadows, based on his 2014 film. The actor/director is currently busy promoting his Fox Searchlight release Jojo Rabbit (opening October 18) and beginning work on Next Goal Wins, his next directorial effort for the Searchlight label.
