It’s one of the biggest events of the year but last night’s game played more like a method to fall asleep rather than excite viewers. The Super Bowl featured a highly anticipated matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and The New England Patriots but it broke records for all the wrong reasons.
Super Bowl Hits 10 Year Low In Early Ratings
Then there are the early ratings. Shown on CBS for the first time since 2016 and with ad spots going for around $5 million each, the Rams’ loss scored a 44.9/68 in metered-market results. That’s a dip of just over 5.2% from last years of February 4, 2018 game on NBC in the first round of ratings. On a larger playing field, that metered-market result for yesterday’s game is the worst the Super Bowl has done in the early numbers since the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals on February 1, 2009.
The demo numbers and total viewers will come in soon but as of now, the narrative for last night’s big game will definitely be more on the dismal side rather than a reason to truly celebrate.
