Suicide Squad 2 May Push Back Start of Filming to 2019

The latest DCEU news comes from the Sucide Squad sequel as Variety’s Justin Kroll reports on Twitter that Suicide Squad 2 may start filming in 2019 now. The start of production was already pushed back as the film was slated to enter production in March 2018. The change of date means that the film’s release date will be pushed to at least 2020.

The main reason for the shift in dates is Warner Bros. is prioritizing Birds of Prey. It seems that the studio is looking to introduce a number of characters in the team-up movie and then spin them off into either solo movies or other team-up installments, beginning with the now director less Batgirl.

Another reason for the delay is a potential scheduling conflicts with some of the film’s main stars. In addition to Margot Robbie being one of the main characters in Birds of Prey this year, Will Smith may also have some difficulty making time for Suicide Squad 2 as he wrapped on Disney’s Aladdin, and he’s now currently filming Ang Lee’s Gemini Man.
