With the success of Ready Player One, Steven Spielberg is ready to tackle a genre he’s yet to touch, comic books. That is about to change as Spielberg is tackling his first DC Comics property, the World War II action-adventure hero Blackhawk.
Spielberg along with his production company will produce Blackhawk for Warner Bros., and is developing it as a possible directing job, the studio announced Tuesday. The film will be written by David Koepp, who has previously worked with Spielberg writing Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Blackhawk first debuted in 1941’s Military Comics No. 1,published originally by Quality Comics before DC acquired the property in 1956. The comic was one of the biggest sellers in the 1940s.
