Former The Office star Steve Carell will be the first actor to join the upcoming Minecraft film. The film is based on the 2009 avatar game that allows players to create their own characters and environments using textured cubes to vanquish nighttime monsters. Minecraft is the bestselling PC game to date and the second bestselling video game of all time, after Tetris.
The film will be directed by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, who wrote the screenplay alongside Wonder Woman writer Jason Fuchs. The film is set to be released on 25 May 2019.
