Hailed as the longest and most widespread Ponzi scheme in history, the Bernie Madoff case is now being turned into an HBO docudrama, The Wizard of Lies. Starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer as Bernie and Ruth Madoff, the drama will tell the story of how Madoff committed major cases of stock and securities fraud through his company, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, and his admission that the wealth management arm of his business with an elaborate Ponzi scheme. The fraud was discovered in late 2008 and Madoff plead guilty to eleven felony charges, ranging from international money laundering and mail fraud to false filings with the SEC.
The docudrama includes a supporting cast that includes Alessandro Nivola, Nathan Darrow, Kristen Connolly, Lily Rabe, and Hank Azaria.
