Before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down theaters across the country, the surprise box office hit of 2020 was Sonic The Hedgehog. While only in theaters for a month, the film was able to attain 306 million dollars worldwide at the box office, making it the number 2 highest-grossing film of the year thus far.
The question then became when not if a sequel would be greenlit. The when was answered on Thursday evening as Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy confirmed on Thursday that they have commenced development on a sequel to the live-action family comedy. The news, as first reported by Variety, also confirmed the sequel would reteam the filmmakers, with Jeff Fowler directing, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script.
No word on a potential release date for the film.
