Roma continues its run as the one to beat at the Oscars with a top win at the BAFTA Awards over the weekend. The film took home Best Film at the ceremony in what some are calling an upset as The Favourite was viewed to be the one to take the award home.
The Favourite led the night with 12 nominations and took home an impressive seven trophies. The film won Outstanding British Film, acting trophies for lead Olivia Colman and co-star Rachel Weisz, as well as Original Screenplay, Costume Design, Production Design, and Make up & Hair.
Roma picked up other wins as well, including Director, Cinematography and Best Film Not in the English Language. This could indicate that the Academy may grace the film with these awards as well come Oscar night.
Also picking up Oscar momentum Sunday was Rami Malek, who scored a Leading Actor win for Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody and the film also picked up a Sound award as well. Mahershala Ali won the Supporting Actor prize for Green Book. Both won the same categories at the SAG Awards which seems to make wins for them at the Oscars a sure thing. That being said, it has been a crazy awards season so anything could happen at this point.
