Roma Wins Big At The Critics’ Choice Awards

Roma continued to look like the one to beat as we head to The Oscars by receiving top honors at the 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma led all winners at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, taking four total wins including the Best Picture honor at the televised ceremony at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica. Cuarón also won Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Foreign Film.

Other significant wins the film categories included a tie for Best Actress between The Wife‘s Glenn Close & Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born. Gaga was a multiple winner on Sunday as she also took home Best Song for “Shallow”.  The Supporting Actor and Actress wins mirrored the Golden Globes with Mahershala Ali winning for Green Book and Regina King winning for If Beale Street Could Talk. Also showing how up in the air the Best Actor category may be, Christian Bale beat out Rami Malek for Vice and also took home an award for Best Comedy Actor.

On the TV side,  FX’s The Americans, which came in with five nominations, won Best Drama Series for its final season, while Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took Best Comedy Series; each had three wins overall on the night to lead the TV categories. The latter’s star, Rachel Brosnahan, won Best Comedy Actress earlier in the night for the second year in a row.
