Rick Moranis Returning To Acting For Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Sequel

It’s official! Rick Moranis is coming out of a very long retirement to return for the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids sequel, Shrunk.

It was originally stated that the film would be for the Disney+ platform but “Deadline” is reporting that the film will actually be a theatrical release. Disney wanted to keep the Moranis news under wraps but when the guy who was in such hits like Ghostbusters, The Flintstones, Little Giants, Spaceballs & Parenthood,  comes back to acting, it’s hard to keep that quiet. This isn’t a he’s in talks situation, he has signed on the dotted line.

The film’s original director, Joe Johnston, will be back at the helm with Josh Gad also starring. The movie centers around Gad’s character who is the son of Rick Moranis’ Wayne Szalinski. He’s aspiring to be like his father & he does so in more ways than way one: by also shrinking the kids.

Moranis began his retirement from on-screen acting to focus on raising his kids in 1997. Moranis did continue to do voiceover work because it’s flexible & can even be done from home for some performers. His voice work includes Disney’s Brother Bear movies and The Animated Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenize.

The Honey, I Shrunk The Kids movies following the 1989 release of the original spawned Honey, I Blew Up The Kid & the direct to video Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. The first two movies made over $281 million worldwide.
