A few years after the release of the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise, the film series is set to be rebooted. As first reported by Deadline, a new feature film reboot of the Resident Evil franchise is on the way. This reboot does carry some excitement as unlike the previous installments, this reboot is said to have “faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games…set in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City“.
The reboot now has a director and cast and the film is set to be directed by Johannes Roberts, and starring Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough as William Birkin.
Here’s what director Roberts had to say about the film:
With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.
