Reel TV Ratings: (Monday) – The Voice Beats American Idol In First Head To Head Matchup

It was the battle of the singing competition shows last night & NBC came out on top with The Voice barely being fazed by the presence of American Idol.

Round 1 of The Voice versus American Idol saw The Voice easily come out on top with a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 11.7 million viewers. American Idol, on the other hand, was down 22 percent in the key demo from its Sunday debut — averaging a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. Among total viewers, American Idol lost a little less steam, with an average 8.4 million viewers. While it’s fun to put these shows against each other, ABC is still good with this demo score as it slightly beat the performance of The Bachelor & is well above the season average of Dancing With The Stars, which usually holds this timeslot. The Voice did drop one tenth week to week but it really seems like the two shows didn’t hurt each other all that much.

The roles flipped considerably for the networks at 10PM which had The Good Doctor rebound significantly from its season low of 1.3 to a 1.8 demo rating & 9.88 million viewers. It retained 100% of Idol’s demo audience which is a great feat for the freshman drama.

On the other hand on NBC following The Voice, Good Girls dropped significantly from its lead-in to a 1.0 demo rating & 4.46 million viewers. The show had been performing ok in its last few outings but it can’t sink much lower than this if it wants a renewal.

On The CW, Legends of Tomorrow matched its week ago demo rating of 0.4 & 1.26 million viewers while iZombie held well with a 0.3 demo score & 760,000 viewers.

On FOX, Lucifer was steady week to week with a 0.7 demo rating & 2.97 million viewers while The Resident dropped a tenth week to week with a 0.8 demo rating & 3.80 million viewers.

On CBS, it was business as usual with Man With a Plan hitting a 1.0 demo rating & 6.95 million viewers while Living Biblically remained low with a 0.7 demo rating & 4.67 million viewers.
