It was the battle of the medical dramas last night and The Good Doctor is winning the battle over The Resident by a wide margin.
No one expected The Resident to maintain its inflated NFL assisted premiere on Sunday but I said yesterday that a 1.1 or higher would be ok with FOX on its Monday debut. Well, it came in below those expectations with a 1.0 demo rating in the 18-49 and 4.67 million viewers. That’s less than half of the 2.6 demo rating it scored on Sunday and it’s not a very encouraging sign. The one upside is that it did outperform its lead-in Lucifer which scored a 0.9 demo rating and 3.78 million viewers. The series was up 2 tenths from its last episode on January 1.
On ABC, The Good Doctor continued to win for the network with a 1.7 demo rating and 9.49 million viewers. The series was steady week to week and continues to be one of the bigger bright spots of the Fall TV season. It’s not quite a This Is Us juggernaut but it’s another encouraging example that people will watch a show live if it’s really good.
Supergirl dipped a tenth to a 0.5 demo rating and 2.03 million viewers on The CW. Despite the 0.1 dip, that’s what it has averaged since its premiere in the fall. Also worth noting although not as important as the demo score, its total viewers out rank Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. Valor put up its usual 0.2 demo score and 1.05 million viewers.
At CBS, Kevin Can Wait (1.3, 7.29 million viewers) and Man with a Plan (1.2, 6.64 million viewers) were even with last week, but Superior Donuts (1.0, 5.70 million viewers) and Scorpion (0.8, 5.21 million viewers) each fell a tenth, and 9JKL dropped two tenths to a 0.8 demo rating and 4.73 million viewers.
On NBC, The Brave dipped a tenth to a 0.6 demo rating and 3.39 million viewers.
