Reel Box Office Predictions: April 28-30

It’s going to be an easy threepeat for The Fate of the Furious since competition is still slim until the arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 next weekend. The film is heading towards a $1 billion worldwide gross this weekend as the film opens up in Japan and will continue to dominate in most foreign territories. I expect a $25 million weekend for the film.

The only other major opening this weekend is The Circle which could do fairly well with the target audience. The movie directed by James Ponsoldt stars Emma Watson who lands the dream job of her life at a tech company, which has a plan to damage the world under the leadership of an evil executive played by Tom Hanks. The film has a rotten rating of 23% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing but the promos have been appealing to its target demo and reviews may not matter at all. Tracking shows The Circle is targeting 17-34 year olds who are drawn by the pressing, relevant and thought-provoking themes presented by the film. I’m predicting about $12 million for the weekend.

Check back on Monday for the final box office results!
