Ray Donovan Follow-Up Movie In The Works At Showtime

Fans of Ray Donovan can rejoice! Following the show’s surprising cancellation after seven seasons last year, Showtime has announced that they’re setting up a feature-length film follow-up to the fan-favorite hit series.

Liev Schreiber is set to return in the title role & will also serve as executive producer along with co-writing the script. Also returning are co-stars Jon Voight & Kerris Dorsey. Showrunner David Hollander will be directing the project & co-writing along with Schreiber. The follow-up film will pick up where season 7 left off, with Mickey (Voight) in the wind & Ray determined to find & stop him before he can cause more carnage. The film will also bring together the present-day fallout from the Donovan/Sullivan feud with Ray and Mickey’s origin story from 30 years ago. Production is tentatively scheduled to begin in New York later this year. Gary Levine, co-president of Entertainment for Showtime, had this to say about the follow-up film:

“When ‘Ray Donovan’ went off our air after seven great seasons, we heard from so many of its loyal fans that they were not ready to say goodbye to Ray and the wonderfully dysfunctional Donovan clan. And so, for them, we are delighted that Liev and David are creating a thrilling new chapter of this iconic series.”

Ray Donovan had aired seven seasons and 82 episodes by the end of its run. Its cancellation was a shock because the show was doing well in the ratings & was still creatively viable. Ray Donovan was one of the longest-running Showtime series to date & received 10 Emmy nominations during its run. Schreiber and Voight were nominated for multiple Emmys for their roles & the latter won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series in 2015.
